Want to know how to get the most out of the Watch AFL video player? This page will give you all the tips.
The Watch AFL video player has heaps of functions that will optimise your viewing experience, giving you total control of the action.
Adaptive Streaming Technology
Our video players use adaptive streaming technology - this means that our content network will deliver you the best possible resolution based on your connection.
This means if you have a fast internet connection, you'll be able to view your streams in HD. If you have a slow internet connection, the Watch AFL video player will adapt and provide a stream in SD.
For the best quality streaming, you'll need a strong, consistent connection of at least 7.5Mbps. You can test your internet speed to help you determine what your streaming quality should be.
Note: An internet speed test will provide an indicative speed, however, they are not always representative of a consistent connection over a long time.
Also, broadband speeds vary during times of peak traffic or when multiple devices are sharing the same network. So if 6 people are using the same network, an internet speed of 7.5Mbps may still result in a lower definition stream.
Fast Forward/Rewind
Want to skip through the action or re-watch a hanger? You can fast-forward and rewind in 15-second blocks. You can also drag the toggle on the video progress timeline to where you would like to watch from.
Change Speed
You can change the playback speed of your stream. Toggle between:
- Normal speed
- Slo-mo
- 1.5x speed
- 2x speed
Go Live
If you rewind or pause your Live match, you have the option to jump back to the Live action with the click of a button. See the LIVE button under the video progress timeline? Click it. It'll take you straight back to the Live action.
Changing Video Quality
You can change the video quality of your stream for optimal performance by clicking the Settings Icon in the top right-hand corner of your video screen.
When you open your settings, you can adjust the bit rate and video quality of your stream.
Note: The Safari web browser does not support this function
Unique Device Identifier (UDID)
To check your Unique Device Identifier (UDID), click the Settings Icon in the top right-hand corner of your video screen.
When you open your settings, click 'Info' to display your UDID. You may be asked to provide your UDID to the Watch AFL Customer Care team if they're troubleshooting any playback issues you may be experiencing.
Note: The above relates to the video player functionality on the Watch AFL website, not the Watch AFL app.
